Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, made their first official joint engagement of the year.
Their Royal Highnesses visited Birkenhead, in Merseyside, where they met a number of local organisations that support and empower groups within the community.
They spent some time talking and interacting with the crowds who gathered in Hamilton Square to welcome them.

KEY EVENTS OF THE DAY
First stop was on Hamilton Square where TRH visited the new statue of WW1 Birkenhead poet, Wilfred Owen.
The striking statue and war memorial was erected in November 2018 to mark the centenary of Wilfred Owen’s death in WW1.
To mark their visit to Birkenhead, TRH unveiled a plaque on the war memorial.

Next, they went on a walkabout in Hamilton greeting and interacting with the crowds who gathered to welcome TRH.
Speaking with wellwishers, the Duchess revealed she is 6 months along in her pregnancy and that their baby is due towards the end of April this year.

Next on their itinerary was a visit to Number 7, a supermaket and community cafe that is supported by churches, food banks, community groups, and other organisations, working to eliminate hunger in Birkenhead.
Meghan also presented a fellow expectant mother with a basket full of baby goods as she and Prince Harry toured the Number 7 supermarket.

Moving on from Number 7, TRH visited TOMORROW’S WOMEN WIRRAL , a program and organisation for women aged 18 years and upwards, committed to reducing female imprisonment, offending, and to provide assistance to those women who want to make positive lifestyle changes.

For their last activity, the royal couple visited HIVE YOUTH ZONE – a safe space for young locals, providing leisure activities, as well as help in building key skills and confidence building.

Her Royal Highness’ outfit for the day was:
- A Sentaler red coat
- The Babaton Maxwell dress by Canadian designer, Aritzia
- The Gabriela Hearst ‘Nina’ bag
- Stuart Weitzman red suede pumps
- Bar Jewelry’s Wide Ripple style bracelet

The Duchess’ bright ensemble, which echoed an outfit worn by Princess Diana, makes a surprise from her usual neutral palette.
