On Saturday, the 6th of July 2020, exactly two months following his birth, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s newborn son, Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, was christened in a small and private ceremony at a private chapel in Windsor Castle, using The Royal Lily Font.
The Lily Font was commissioned by Queen Victoria & Prince Albert for their first child’s baptism in 1841.
Since then, all Royal Christenings have used The Lily Font.
Also, in keeping with royal tradition, water from the river Jordan was used in the christening.
Master Archie was dressed in a replica of the Honiton lace christening gown commissioned by Queen Victoria.
With just 25 guests invited, the ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
Attendees included Harry and Meghan’s closest family members—the Cambridges, Charles and Camilla, Meghan’s mother Doria, Princess Diana’s sister, and the baby’s godparents, whose identities have been kept private.
Due to prior commitments, Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Phillip were unable to attend the christening.
