Following the announcement of Mayhew being one of the first of Meghan’s four Royal Patronages, the Duchess of Sussex made her first public appearance yesterday to the animal welfare organisation.
Established in 1886, MAYHEW aims to help animals by providing veterinary care and educating people on responsible pet ownership.
The organisation works with homelessness charities across London to ensure people and their animal companions can remain together and it also runs a Pet Refuge programme to provide shelter and care for the pets of people in crisis.
The purpose of her visit was to meet with staff, volunteers and beneficiaries, and hear more about the animal welfare charity’s various initiatives, from community engagement to international projects.
The longtime animal lover and rescue dog owner is also the first Royal patron for Mayhew, and she spent some time giving cuddles to a few of the organisation’s furry clients!
Despite being almost tempted to take home a rescue dog herself, she politely declined, explaining that with she and Prince Harry having already adopted a black Labrador last summer and their first baby on the way, they have their hands very full!
Peggy McEachrom, a Mayhew client, told Meghan how the dog had improved her outlook on life through his visits to Lawnfield Care Home, where she currently lives. She also marvelled at Meghan’s blossoming bump, jokingly calling her a “fat lady.” Meghan laughed, responding, “I’ll take that!”
A contrast from the vibrant outfit that she wore on her previous engagement, the Duchess of Sussex’s outfit for her Mayhew visit was a very neutral palette of cream shades.
Wearing her Beige Armani Cashmere Coat (first worn last October on her engagement to Sussex), HRH also wore the MAMA fine knit dress from the H & M Maternity range.
Her shoes are new and they are ‘Coquette’ suede Camel slingback pumps by Paul Andrew.
A very simple, neutral and feminine outfit for the glowing mommy-to-be.
