70 years ago today, on the 6th of February 1952, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne, following the death of her father, King George VI.
She has now become the longest-serving monarch in British history and the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
Through seven decades of enormous social change, The Queen’s extraordinary duty, dedication and devotion to the UK, the Realms and the Commonwealth has remained a constant, a rock of stability in an ever-changing world.
This photograph has been released to mark Accession Day 2022: the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s reign and the start of her Platinum Jubilee year.
“I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service” – Princess Elizabeth, 1947.
Last night, the Queen issued a message of thanks and reaffirms that her commitment to duty and service is for life: “It gives me pleasure to renew to you the pledge I gave in 1947 that my life will always be devoted to your service…I look forward to continuing to serve you with all my heart…..Your Servant, Elizabeth R.”
Seventy years our sovereign. Seventy years of devoted service to the people of the United Kingdom, all the Realms and the Commonwealth.
Many congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee today. We are grateful to her for her unwavering service.
